Starting at €20,900, the Fiat Grande Panda does not disappoint

Nostalgics of the little Panda have faced disappointment with recent developments, but as it becomes Grande, it approaches the icon.

Fiat today announces the opening of orders for its new Fiat Grande Panda with a 100% electric motor at completely crazy prices: 15,900 euros for the (RED) version and 18,900 euros for the fully equipped high-end version, La Prima. These prices should be disregarded as they take into account all possible and imaginable government aids, namely the complementary bonus and the maximum conversion premium. On our part, we prefer to stick to the customer price of 24,900 euros after applying the 4,000 euro bonus for which it is eligible. It’s already very good as it’s close to the price of a 500e, so no need to do more.

Equipped with a 44 kWh battery and an 83 kW (113 hp) electric motor, this electric Grande Panda offers a range of 320 km in the combined WLTP cycle, which is sufficient for daily urban use and some weekend getaways. Be careful, our little Italian, all angular, is not a speed demon with a top speed of 132 km/h and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 11 seconds. Fiat is trying to deceive us with a 0 to 50 km/h in 4.2 seconds, but we are not fooled. It’s a gentle one, a calm one, in short, a true Panda!

It is not a monster of technology either, with an electricity consumption of 17.4 kWh/100 km in the WLTP cycle. Naturally, with such square shapes, no miracle was to be expected. But precisely, its main asset is these shapes that take us back a few decades. There is some Panda in this Grande Panda, and that is delightful.

One of the funniest solutions is its retractable spiral charging cable that has a specific housing under the hood. It offers charging of up to 7 kW, taking 3 hours and 43 minutes (from 20% to 100%). It is also possible to opt for an 11 kW onboard charger (optional) to achieve a charge in 2 hours and 55 minutes. Finally, the New Grande Panda accepts fast charging up to 100 kW, which is quite good. The copy is therefore not perfect, but it deserves our encouragement for all these efforts.
