Ssangyong is back with a stylish electric SUV (video)!

The Ssangyong Torres EVX is showcased at the Seoul Mobility Show 2023 and could revive the Korean brand in Europe, where it faces heavy taxes.

Little known to the general public, especially in France, the brand Ssangyong has been present here since 2004. Its lineup, mainly composed of SUVs with large engines, has still managed to attract up to 5,000 customers per year. However, the introduction of the Malus tax in 2008 brought an end to this “spring” for Ssangyong, and the brand experienced an unstoppable decline in sales. Today, three models are available in France: Ssangyong Tivoli, Ssangyong Korando, and Ssangyong Rexton… All equipped with gasoline or diesel engines.

If you’re an enthusiast of the Korean manufacturer, I won’t surprise you with the upcoming change of identity. SsangYong Motor will soon become KG Mobility, aiming to refresh its image and move forward.

The rebranding will be accompanied by new, more ambitious models, such as the new Ssangyong Torres EVX, presented at the Seoul Mobility Show 2023.

The combination of the letters EV (for electric vehicle) and X (for eXtreme) reflects the Korean’s new philosophy. Note that this model is not entirely new, as it is based on the thermal Torres EVX, but it differs with a redesigned style and its electric motor.

A Range Announced as Less Ambitious

Under the hood, there is an electric motor producing 190 horsepower. It is paired with a 55.3 kWh net battery, which would allow it to reach 340 km according to WLTP autonomy standards.

The Ssangyong Torres EVX won’t be the only new model from the manufacturer at the Korean Motor Show. Ssangyong will present no fewer than 16 models and new electric platforms, including concepts called KR10, O100, and F100. The Seoul Mobility Show 2023 will be held from March 30 to April 9.
