Rivian, Major Rival to Tesla Cybertruck, Opens a Theater!
This page is translated from the original post "Rivian, grand rival du Tesla Cybertruck, s’offre un théâtre !" in French.

On December 9th, Rivian opened the doors of the Rivian South Coast Theater, its first flagship in Southern California.
If you’re not yet familiar with Rivian, it’s hardly surprising since this brand currently limits its activities to the United States. But in Uncle Sam’s land, the young manufacturer is competing directly with the best pickups, such as the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Tesla Cybertruck. This electric startup is still very young, but many already predict a Tesla-like future for it.
To connect with its audience, the manufacturer has set up shop at the Rivian South Coast Theater. After a meticulous restoration, Rivian reimagined the space to make it a unique destination where visitors can learn more about its vehicles and gather for community events and theatrical programming that, according to its words, “celebrates creativity and adventure.”
Located at 162 South Coast Highway, just 15 miles from Rivian’s headquarters in Irvine, this theater first opened in 1935 under the name New Lynn Theater. The original features of the site that have been preserved and restored include the marquee, ticket office, entrance hall, balcony, auditorium, front-stage arch, and the original 129-seat theater. After working closely with conservationists and community leaders throughout the restoration, Rivian applied for the site to be designated as a historic landmark, which led to the theater being added to the National Register of Historic Places in March 2023.
The future will tell whether Rivian manages to find its place in this highly competitive market, but whatever happens, it already has something Elon Musk does not!
