Nouveau Renault Espace teaser

The Renault Espace is not dead, but it is about to completely change its philosophy.

A few weeks before the official presentation of the new Espace, Renault has released two images of the car shrouded in darkness. They confirm that the next Espace will abandon its minivan look for a SUV silhouette.

The future Espace will share the platform of the Austral. The two vehicles are expected to be very similar, both visually and technically. Slightly larger, the Espace will stretch to 4.72 meters long, which is 20 cm more than the Austral. The wheelbase will benefit partly from this elongation, likely providing more rear passenger space.

This new generation will be a bit more compact than the currently marketed model (-14 cm). Despite that, it will still be able to accommodate 7 people on board, and will even offer a bit more length space according to Renault. Note that the 7-seat configuration will not be mandatory; customers who prefer can also opt for a Renault Espace with 5 seats.

A new Renault Espace with hybrid but no electric version

The engine options are expected to mirror those of the Austral. Renault Espace will thus receive hybrid powertrains but will skip the fully electric version. This will distinguish it from its main rival, the upcoming Peugeot 5008. The latter, arriving shortly after the new 3008, will offer a choice between thermal engines (probably with hybridization) and 100% electric.

The presentation of the new Renault Espace will take place in spring 2023. Prices have not yet been announced but are expected to be slightly higher than those of the Austral, starting at €34,000 with the 130 hp hybrid engine.
