The proof provided by Renault consists of five characters: R5T3E. With its Renault 5 Turbo 3E, the diamond brand dares to embark on a totally unreasonable project… and that is exactly what makes it fascinating.

Displayed in dynamic demonstration at the 2026 Festival of Speed at Goodwood, the “mini-supercar” electric once again brought us joy. It’s impossible to remain indifferent to this muscular silhouette, directly inspired by the legendary Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 from the 1980s. The nostalgic nod is obvious, but the technology is firmly oriented towards tomorrow.

Two wheel-motors develop 555 hp and a spectacular torque of 4,800 Nm at the rear! Thanks to a carbon structure limiting the weight to approximately 1,450 kg, the 0 to 100 km/h sprint is completed in less than 3.5 seconds. With an 800-volt architecture, recharge up to 330 kW, a 70 kWh battery, and an announced range of over 400 kilometers: on paper, this Renault checks all the boxes of a high-end electric sports car.

Freedom, freedom… freedom!

But the essence lies elsewhere. The Renault 5 Turbo 3E was never intended to become a mass-produced model. Produced in only 1,980 units, priced from 160,000 euros and highly customizable, it embraces its status as an exceptional object. A true rolling laboratory, but also a fantastic vector of image.

Above all, it proves that in 2026, manufacturers can still afford a touch of madness. While the automotive industry is engaged in a race for rationalization and China invades our roads, Renault dares to launch a distinctly French car that answers no market research, but simply a desire. The desire to make the hearts of enthusiasts race.
