RAM Revolution Concept: The Ultimate Massive Electric Pickup?

The RAM brand, a US specialist in pickups, is moving into electric with the Revolution concept car, previewing the 2024 series model.

Electric vehicles started with tiny cars. Remember the Citroën C-ZERO and Peugeot iOn, before the appearance of larger city cars and compacts. And Tesla changed the rules by introducing large vehicles with high autonomy and fast charging capabilities. Perhaps this is the brand RAM should thank, as technology is now mature enough to power electric pickups, like the Ram Revolution.

The Ram Revolution is a supercharged beast

Its competitors Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado have already launched their models, so the Stellantis group’s brand is late to the game. More importantly, the American brand only presented a concept car at CES 2023, following the Peugeot Inception, which signals the 2024 production version. Yet, for CEO Mike Koval, the goal wasn’t to be first like Rivian, but “to be there with the right product at the right time.” The electric pickup has waited to possess the best in the four pillars of its category: range, towing capacity, payload, and charging time.

While dimensions remain those of a traditional pickup — around 6 meters long — this Ram Revolution adopts a design closer to an SUV. Behind its double cab with five seats, it cleverly hides its bed, which is even more practical. With an rear opening of the cab, it can carry objects up to 5.5 meters long, passing through the front passenger seat and under the front hood!

Fast charging and induction robot

Regarding the battery and range, stemming from Stellantis’ STLA Frame platform, details remain vague. However, the Ram Revolution promises 160 km of recharge in 10 minutes, with a maximum power of 350 kW. A home charging solution also includes a small robot, resembling an autonomous vacuum cleaner, that positions itself under the vehicle and delivers energy via induction charging.

Autonomous driving is also part of the package, along with an automatic “Shadow” mode that follows its driver a few meters behind… like a dog. The pickup adds four-wheel steering, like the Hummer, with up to a 15° angle at the rear, camera mirrors, and augmented head-up display.

More than technology, Ram still brings some more sustainable innovations, which do not compensate for its huge weight. The varnish used will be more eco-friendly, the leather will come from the apple industry, and some surfaces will mix cork and recycled rubber. Front trunk, rear wheel well storage, and even a third-row seat will enhance the practicality of this Ram Revolution.

We will have to wait to see if all these features will be standard or optional. The Ram Revolution will thus arrive in 2024 as the electric equivalent of the current gasoline Ram 1500.
