Porsche Taycan: New Safety Car in Formula E
Electrifying flagship of the brand, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S succeeds the BMW i8 as the safety car of the Formula E racing championship.
The Porsche Taycan makes a stunning start for 2022. In addition to surpassing the 911 in sales last year, it becomes the official car of Formula E.
Finally a 100% electric sports car for Formula E
The single-seater electric racing championship has chosen the sedan as its safety car for season 8. It succeeds the BMW brand and its 362-horsepower hybrid rechargeable i8 coupe.
Last season, the Mini Pacesetter prototype was more intermittent. Indeed, this vehicle was more legitimate because it was 100% electric. However, its performance was modest, with 181 horsepower and 280 Nm, enough to do 0-100 km/h in under 7 seconds.

The high-end model chosen is the Turbo S. This version delivers 761 horsepower (560 kW) and a torque of 1,050 Nm. While Porsche cannot compete with the Gen 3 cars, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 260 km/h.
Its livery is similar to the BMW i8 safety car, combining blue and white, with flashing lights on the roof. Its driver, Bruno Correia, is equipped with a 6-point harness, fire extinguisher, and a specific communication system.
Kick-off of the Taycan at the end of January
The Porsche Taycan will be seen on the tracks in just a few days. Its first appearance is scheduled for January 28-29 in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, for the first two races. The electric sedan will then race at the remaining nine venues of the 2022 Formula E season, culminating in the Seoul final on August 14.
