The upcoming electric Porsche 911 is not German

The upcoming Polestar 6 convertible aims to compete with the Porsche 911 with its electric propulsion, announces the Swedish brand.

Electric sports cars are not yet a reality of today. While the Tesla Roadster proved that modern electric cars can have impressive performance, no model is available on the market in 2022. Well, affordable, we mean, because Pininfarina Battista or Rimac Nevera are vehicles flirting with 2 million euros. But patience, as the Polestar 6 could become the queen of this segment.

The 6 against the flat-six

“We compare this vehicle dynamically to a Porsche,” confides Edward Trinh, product plant director at Polestar Australia to Drive, “the 911 and the Taycan are the kinds of cars we look at. We believe they are the current benchmark in terms of behavior.”

Although the Polestar 6 will only arrive in four years, a path opens up for it! Because, on the horizon, no real competitors would disrupt it. The Tesla Roadster II remains a fanstasy dating back to 2017, and the electric Porsche 911 probably won’t arrive before 2030. Perhaps the MG Cyberster will change that. However, we expect Polestar to excel in the premium/performance aspect, and more MG in terms of price/prestation ratio. Finally, the electric Corvette should also enter the segment. An American brand known for pure speed rather than lap times.

The Polestar 6 arrives in 2026

The Scandinavian coupe-convertible has shown its design in concept form this year, but it is only the beginning of its development. The Polestar 6 will give time for the “4” crossover to arrive in 2024, before the big “5” sedan the following year.

Far away? Not so much for the first 500 customers. They jumped on the first pre-order of 500 units of the “LA Edition,” at a price of €200,000! It’s still early days in terms of numbers, but Polestar mentioned a system with 884 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque from the Polestar 5.
