Peugeot Ridicules Tesla with Its E-3008 and E-5008

The autonomy war is raging among electric car manufacturers, and the latest standout move comes from Peugeot.

Peugeot certainly did not miss the fact that Tesla is recording record sales with its Long Range models. It makes sense when you know that the main barrier to purchasing an electric car is autonomy. Even though we keep insisting that by adapting one’s charging habits to the vehicle’s use, a range of 400 km in the WLTP cycle is more than sufficient to meet over 95% of needs, the fear of endless stops at charging stations remains.

So, to beat Tesla, you need to do better than Tesla, which Peugeot has clearly understood and is implementing masterfully with its new E-3008 and E-5008 Long Range. Thanks to their ‘made in France’ batteries produced in the ACC gigafactory in Douvrin, the official WLTP ranges of the two models are now officially homologated at 700 and 668 km respectively. Isn’t that beautiful? It’s French.

A price that matches the autonomy?

The opening of orders by Peugeot for these Long Range versions is imminent and should reassure users looking for a nice model, well-equipped, and especially capable of covering long distances. But while autonomy is great, what about charging times? These new 96.9 kWh usable batteries can accept rapid charging power of up to 160 kW, with 27 minutes to charge from 20% to 80%, or 150 km in just 10 minutes.

This new offering naturally benefits the large E-5008 first. The 100% electric SUV with 7 seats opens up new horizons with an electric range of up to 668 km. A unique offer on the market that should provide the commercial boost it desperately needs with the prospect of long-distance family trips without the hassle of having to make quick stops at superchargers. The kids will appreciate a good lunch break while the battery is recharged. There remains the question of the price, which has not yet been revealed. The base model with its 210 hp engine and 73 kWh battery is priced at 46,990 euros and qualifies for the eco bonus, which lowers the price to 42,990 euros. Let’s hope that the price differential does not penalize this promising large Peugeot Long Range too much.
