Broken down after just 39 kilometers, the car returns to the factory

A Chinese owner was able to enjoy his brand new car, a Xiaomi SU7, for only 39 kilometers.

Any launch of a new car is of course accompanied by its share of mishaps. One thing is for sure: no manufacturer can escape it, especially when it markets its first car like Xiaomi with the SU7. The latest incident reported by CarNewsChina is probably the strangest to date. A Xiaomi SU7 broke down after only 39 kilometers and was declared irreparable by the dealership, which preferred to send it back to the factory.

Mr. Wen was one of the first Chinese customers to take possession of his Xiaomi SU7 on May 4 at the Xiaomi Auto Xiamen Xing’an dealership in Fujian province. Two days later, he posted a video indicating that his car had broken down the day after delivery after only 39 kilometers. The video shows the car parked on the emergency lane with the following message displayed on the digital screen “The car is about to stop, please pull over safely and contact the online service center.” It was then impossible to restart the machine.

The Xiaomi center confirmed on May 7 that it had received a complaint from Mr. Wen and was unable to determine what the problem was. Mr. Wen insists that his car has been sent back to the factory and that the brand offered him a refund and compensation for the trouble caused. But he refuses this solution and demands to be provided with another car, which is unfortunately impossible. Indeed, Xiaomi is a victim of the success of its model and is already struggling to fulfill past orders despite a staggering production rate.
