Nissan Qashqai and Juke Soon to Be Electric

The Japanese manufacturer continues its electric transition across three flagship products: Juke, Leaf, and Qashqai.

Nissan announced its intentions recently at the Japan Mobility Show by unveiling a fleet of electric Concept Cars that preview its future direction. Today, an investment of £1.12 billion in R&D and manufacturing for the two new models was announced. Part of this budget will also be allocated to upgrading its European facilities and manufacturing processes.

These three new electric vehicles represent the future of the three models currently produced at the Sunderland plant:

• Nissan Qashqai – the original crossover, the best-selling car in the UK in 2022.
• Nissan Juke – the compact crossover sold in over one million units.
• Nissan Leaf – the manufacturer’s first 100% electric vehicle.

The three future models will be inspired by three fully electric concept models, two of which were recently unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show:

• The Nissan Hyper Urban Concept, an electric multi-segment vehicle characterized by a sleek and modern aesthetic.
• The Nissan Hyper Punk Concept, a fully electric compact car with an exterior design defined by multi-shaped and polygonal surfaces.
• The Nissan Chill-Out Concept, unveiled in 2021 and previously confirmed as the inspiration for a future electric vehicle to be built in Sunderland.

All that remains is to learn the names, specifications, and launch dates of these models.
