New Mercedes CLA, the versatile tech

Mercedes has unveiled the new generation of the CLA, featuring technological advancements and sustainable mobility solutions.

We were eager to discover this Mercedes CLA, announced and teased for months. While we didn’t expect much from its familiar, yet quite elegant design, we were curious to get a glimpse of its technological features, touted as revolutionary by the star-brand.

The new CLA measures 4,723 millimeters, an increase of 4 centimeters compared to its predecessor, while the wheelbase has grown by over 6 centimeters to reach 2,790 millimeters. This evolution benefits interior space, providing more legroom in the front (+11 millimeters) and increased headroom for passengers in both rows (+16 millimeters at the front and +28 millimeters at the rear). The EQ version of the CLA marks a first for modern Mercedes-Benz by incorporating a front trunk offering 101 liters of storage. At the rear, the electric CLA features a trunk capacity of 405 liters, enhancing its versatility.

This sedan adopts the proprietary MB.OS operating system, which enhances the user experience through an intuitive interface and live updates. The MBUX system, now in its fourth generation, utilizes artificial intelligence to provide a more efficient voice assistant and an enriched navigation experience through strategic partnerships with Google and Microsoft.

The core of this evolution lies in the powertrain options. A 100% electric version offers an impressive WLTP range of 792 km, with fast charging at 800 volts allowing 325 km to be recovered in ten minutes. Mercedes also offers a 48-volt mild hybrid option to cater to a diverse customer base, combining energy efficiency and versatility.

The exterior design, true to the brand’s aesthetic codes, features smooth lines and a luminous grille that emphasizes its dynamic character. Inside, the cabin reflects modernity with the Superscreen MBUX, a centralized touchscreen that consolidates all essential controls. The use of sustainable materials, such as wood and modern textiles tinted in shades like aqua mint, highlights the manufacturer’s ecological commitment, while eco-friendly manufacturing processes reinforce this approach.

In terms of safety and driver assistance, the CLA benefits from the latest advancements with MB.DRIVE technology. This offers Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features, including lane change assistance, thus increasing comfort and safety during journeys. These innovations position the vehicle as a technological benchmark in its class.

This new generation of CLA illustrates Mercedes’ intention to blend performance, elegance, and environmental consciousness. By combining advanced technological solutions, responsible materials, and suitable powertrains for current challenges, this model aims to meet user expectations while reducing environmental impact.
