Mazda Arata, a Striking Electric Concept

Mazda took advantage of the Beijing Motor Show to discreetly slide a small electric concept car onto the podium that deserves to be highlighted.

But the switch seems finally to be underway with the Mazda Arata, a design concept based on a native electric platform. This multi-segment SUV with a modern design features a sleek, elegant, and especially distinctive style that could finally bring to life a lineage boasting strong stylistic markers. Better still, this Arata is expected to go into series production by the end of 2025 on the Chinese market. In China, where electrification is progressing rapidly, Mazda is finally ready to expand its product range.

The theme chosen for the Arata is “SOUL + FUTURISTIC x MODERN,” essentially the combination of a soul and the future to embody modernity. Futuristic and modern, its shapes are, and as for the soul, it takes more than one model to give it substance. The side view is dominated by massive doors that will likely undergo a slight redesign to let in a bit of light into the cabin. The rear lights blend into a transverse wing, which is expected to become the manufacturer’s signature lighting. This wing features the illuminated Mazda lettering, but be cautious as it closely resembles what can be seen on Jaguar SUVs.

The air intakes placed under the signature grille and on each side of the bumper are not solely intended to energize the front but also contribute to a global aerodynamic concept aimed at improving environmental performance. While giving the model a futuristic feel, Mazda honestly admits to this design feature.
