Latest sports tests for the Alpine A390

Alpine’s engineering teams are finalizing the development of the A390, the brand’s first sporty fastback.

And what better way to test Alpine’s electric sports car than on the wet track at the Michelin complex in Ladoux, Auvergne. These tests highlight the chassis balance on slippery roads, thanks to Alpine’s expertise and technologies, notably the Alpine Active Torque Vectoring.

Designed to offer the legendary agility and driving pleasure of the A110, the A390 combines high performance with space for five passengers. With dimensions of 4,615 mm in length, 1,532 mm in height, and 1,885 mm in width, this model has the challenging task of embodying Alpine’s dynamic DNA in a… SUV body. Yes, you have to call a spade a spade. It will be unveiled on May 27, 2025, in Dieppe, a few days before the brand’s 70th-anniversary celebrations.

On the 4,100-meter test track, engineers validate the vehicle’s dynamic performance, equipped with three electric motors and specific tires developed with Michelin (20-inch Pilot Sport EV and 21-inch Pilot Sport 4S). These tires, marked “A39,” ensure optimal grip and control, even in extreme conditions.

Technology at the Service of the SUV

The onboard technologies of the A390 undergo intensive testing, including its five driving modes, one of which is the new Track mode. This adjusts the settings of the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) to maximize sensations on the circuit. The teams are also working on mapping these components to ensure an immersive and responsive driving experience.

Meanwhile, the Alpine Drive Sound system is being refined to enhance the auditory experience. Two specific sound signatures have been created: one sporty, inspired by the A110, without imitating the sound of an internal combustion engine; the other more suitable for everyday use, providing a softer sound ambiance. These options are adjustable in intensity or can be turned off.
