The Abarth 600e knows how to make itself desired

On her 75th birthday, Abarth gifted us with a present: three new shots of its upcoming 600e with 240 horsepower.

Vivid Purple color, a sharp drifted turn, the Abarth 600e is quite a peculiar rolling object. A compact electric SUV, seemingly not sporty on paper, but which, thanks to the magic of electronics and the power of electricity, will be lively to drive.

In reality, since shifting to electric, Abarth is no longer the “wizard” we once knew, but rather a sporty badge like Alpine will be for the Renault 5. A stylish object with an eye-catching look, with a comfort aspect that will appeal to masochists—but it has its charm. Because in the end, being passionate about cars in 2024 is a form of masochism, isn’t it? Government policies or city regulations, like those in Paris, know how to convince us.

Is there a market for the Abarth 600e?

The three photos revealed on Sunday, March 31, 2024, are highly instructive if one looks at them carefully. First, we see the final appendages that will enhance the exterior design. Notably, a more ventilated front bumper, wheel arches and door sills with a glossy finish, very large rims (probably 20 inches), a small rear spoiler, and a rear bumper featuring a fake diffuser and again a very squared-off cutout.

What about the aerodynamics and rolling resistance of such tires on the range of this sporty car? After all, one might say that the Abarth petrol versions don’t offer a good range either, with their 35-liter tank and 10 liters of actual consumption…

Official reveal scheduled for June. But knowing that the 600e is a commercial stove and that the Abarth 500e is almost invisible on the streets due to its prohibitive price of €36,900 (before a €4,000 bonus), what can we expect from this Abarth?

Recall that the 600e Pack Scorpionissima version will be produced in a limited edition of 1,949 units, matching Abarth’s birth year, all in this Hypnotic Purple hue. A certain collector’s sense, in short.
