Kia EV9

The Korean brand’s first large electric SUV, the Kia EV9, showcases its silhouette and its versatile 6 to 7 seat interior.

With a few hours’ advance, the Kia EV9 reveals almost everything. It was following a leak of official images that the South Korean manufacturer published its statement and the entire album. Possibly orchestrated, this pre-release only shows the aesthetic aspect of the vehicle.

A large 6 or 7-seater SUV to move the family in silence

On the outside, no surprises. Measuring about 4.90 meters, the Kia EV9 is the electric counterpart of the Sorento. It adopts the lines of the eponymous concept car, revealed at the Los Angeles Motor Show at the end of 2021. Like the EV6, the style is original, with a streamlined front, some body crease lines breaking the flat surfaces, and dark gloss lower body trim to lighten the overall look. There’s also a hint of Volvo EX90, which is not displeasing.

Inside, the cabin is designed to accommodate 6 or even 7 occupants, including the driver. The dashboard is very horizontal, slightly borrowing from the EV6, but mainly from the sober atmosphere of its cousin Hyundai Ioniq 5. The dual screen will feature the same infotainment system, but the complete equipment of this Kia EV6 is still to be defined. Behind the front seats, the other two rows can face each other in a 6-seater configuration – for stop only – for a more convivial transport experience. Indeed, the independent middle seats can pivot, also providing easier entry into the cabin. However, it is not yet certain whether this will be the case on the 7-seater versions of the Kia EV9 (with bench seat?).

A Kia EV9 exceeding 500 km of range?

Kia has not yet disclosed the specifications of its large electric model. The Kia EV9 uses the Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform, with a voltage capacity of 800 V, enabling very fast charging. The SUV should thus offer up to 239 kW (at least) in peak charging power.

As for motors and battery sizes, we’ll have to wait. Likely, the range should offer two to three different power levels and two capacities, similar to the Kia EV6, to provide between 350 and 500 km of autonomy. However, the base price of the Kia EV9 probably will not go below €70,000.
