On the other, customer expectations completely terrified at the idea of not having autonomy and who only want XXL batteries… which drive prices through the roof.

This seems to be the phenomenon affecting the very successful KIA EV3, whose entry-level version already offers 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh in the Long Range version. But the absence of a eco bonus doesn’t help when, opposite it, the Skoda Elroq is just as relevant… and cheaper.
Is the KIA EV3 finally interesting?
By the end of 2024, the KIA EV3 had already seen a price drop of 4000 euros to realign itself with its competitors. And now, the South Korean manufacturer is offering an additional commercial discount of 3000 euros on all its in-stock vehicles. That makes a total of -7000 euros since the launch last fall.
The great quality of the KIA EV3, aside from its very modern design and excellent performance, is its 400-volt electric architecture. This allows for up to 150 kW of charging power for relatively short stops during long trips. At home, the onboard charger at 11 kW allows for a full recharge in just a few hours overnight.
We see that the KIA EV3, in the mid-range Earth trim, has its price drop to around 35,300 euros without optional paint (700 euros). At this price, it remains unfortunately much more expensive than a Renault Megane EV with long range or a Skoda Elroq.
In France, the KIA EV3 is likely to be confined to brand enthusiasts, or customers attracted by the very aggressive leasing offers that require no down payment. Will we see KIA attempt another discount—ideally—of around 5000 euros to be perfectly positioned? The chances are very slim…
