Hyundai Motor Company has taken a strategic step by officially launching its 100% electric brand, IONIQ.

Ahead of the Auto China 2026 show, Hyundai unveiled two concept cars, the VENUS and EARTH, showcasing its renewed ambition in the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector.

A strategy focused on the Chinese user

The launch marks a transition for Hyundai: IONIQ will no longer be limited to a lineup of products but aims to become a complete mobility ecosystem. To appeal to local customers, the brand introduces a new nomenclature based on “planets,” placing the driver at the center of a technological “universe.”

Li Fenggang, president of Beijing Hyundai Motor Company, emphasized that these models will incorporate the brand’s global safety standards while meeting the specific demands of Chinese consumers for smart driving and connected interiors.

VENUS and EARTH: The future of Hyundai design

Presented as aesthetic barometers, these two concepts feature a unique curved silhouette, a signature of the new “Lead, don’t follow” philosophy led by Simon Loasby, head of design at Hyundai.

  • VENUS : Showcasing a “Radiant Gold” hue, this sedan stands out with a lightweight structured roof and a transparent spoiler. The interior offers an enveloping cockpit with contrasting materials, blending suede and gold chrome.
  • EARTH: This robust SUV in “Aurora Shield” finish focuses on comfort. Its interior includes “air-hug” seats and discreet technological elements (“shy-tech”) creating a serene atmosphere.

Beyond design, Hyundai has announced the integration of self-driving systems developed in collaboration with local partners and the adoption of specific technologies such as extended range electric vehicles (EREV).
