How to Benefit from Social Leasing to Drive Electric for Less

Do you dream of going electric without breaking the bank? Social leasing might be for you.

This scheme allows you to rent an electric car for a modest fee, without any obligation to buy it afterwards. And good news: it will be available again starting September 30, 2025.

Social leasing is aimed at low-income households. To qualify, you need to meet two simple conditions:

• Have a reference taxable income per share of 15,400 euros or less.
• Use your car for commuting to work or for your professional activity.

Specifically, the scheme allows you to rent an electric car for at least three years, with rent under 140 euros per month (and in all cases, below 200 euros). The State provides a subsidy of up to 7,000 euros per vehicle to reduce the cost. This aid cannot be combined with other schemes.

Who pays for you?

The 2025 edition will be funded through energy savings certificates (CEE), to encourage ecological transition while supporting purchasing power. The goal is to enable at least 50,000 households to drive electric vehicles. Special attention will be given to residents of low emission zones (ZFE), with 5,000 vehicles reserved for these areas.

To benefit from social leasing, you will have two options:

• Contact a approved rental company directly (whether a manufacturer or not),
• Use a dedicated online platform, which will launch with the official release of the 2025 edition.

Each rental company will need to offer at least one model at under 140 euros per month in their selection. You will then be able to choose from several eligible vehicles, depending on availability.
