Goodwood 2022: A Very Electric Car Festival (+50 Photos)

The 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed celebrated electric cars, from the R5 concept to the Polestar 5 and even a tiny record-breaking Batmobile!

The biggest British automotive show is not a typical event inside a confined hall. Across the Channel, you need to go to Goodwood to attend the Festival of Speed. This show dedicated to sports and racing vehicles has existed since 1993, but electric vehicles are gradually taking up more space…

The venue is divided into two parts. The most popular is the track where numerous vehicles of all kinds race in categories. You can find road cars, race cars, motorcycles, and debut models, sometimes even created for the occasion.

An electrifying outdoor car show

For example, Ford unveiled the fierce “Supervan” electric utility vehicle with 2,000 horsepower. On display, the Lotus Electre, the brand’s first electric SUV, was showcased at the stand. Genesis, Hyundai’s premium brand, presented its three electric GV60s, GV70, and G80 Electrified. The competing brand Lexus didn’t bring its RZ electric SUV, but instead displayed the electric coupe concept revealed last December. After its record of 1,202 km, Mercedes EQXX took to the Goodwood track.

Other upcoming models attempted to impress the audience before their European launch in 2023: the large Lucid Air sedan, the Fisker Ocean SUV, or the Rivian R1T pickup. Among supercars, the Croatian Rimac Nevera echoed the hydrogen rival Viritech Apricale.

Alongside the dynamic display, a true outdoor show dedicated to electric vehicles gathered several new models and concepts along the “Electric Avenue.” Visitors could see the Renault 5 Prototype, the Skoda Enyaq iV, the quirky Electra Meccanica Solo, the Cupra Born, and the Polestar 2.
