Ford E-Transit Custom: The future star of electric commercial vehicles?

Ford plans to begin production of this new model in about a year.

Like its competitors, Ford has already started electrifying its commercial vehicle lineup. The manufacturer has of course planned to go further, including a new E-Transit Custom. A few months after its initial appearance, this model has been presented more comprehensively. On this occasion, Ford unveiled the technical specifications, which had not been communicated until then.

The maximum towing capacity of the new E-Transit Custom reaches 2,000 kg, a record value in its category. The electric motor is located on the floor, at the rear of the vehicle. Ford plans to offer two power levels: 100 kW (135 hp) or 160 kW (217 hp). In both cases, the torque peaks at 415 Nm. The regenerative braking intensity is adjustable across several modes. The E-Transit Custom also offers a “One Pedal” feature, which can stop the vehicle without the driver needing to press the brake pedal.

Battery cells borrowed from the Ford F-150 electric

The Ford e-Transit Custom is equipped with a 74 kWh battery, featuring the same 82 Ah cells as those of the F-150 Lightning. It also has a steam injection heat pump, which reduces the power consumption for heating and air conditioning. Regarding range, Ford states a figure of 380 km, but for now, this is only an estimate.

Capable of accepting up to 125 kW of direct current, the Ford E-Transit Custom can charge from 15% to 80% in 41 minutes. Using a three-phase charger providing at least 11 kW—i.e., the maximum power of the onboard charger—a full recharge will take 7 to 8 hours.

The Ford E-Transit Custom can be equipped with power outlets. Located in the cabin and the loading area, they will be connected to the battery and can supply up to 2.3 kW to tools plugged into them.
