FIAT 600e: The Italian-style Peugeot 2008 Electric

Available as an electric vehicle, the new Fiat 600e will appeal to families looking to add some color to their lives. A hybrid version will follow in 2024.

The temptation to replicate a successful design is always strong. The look is instantly recognizable, to the point of developing a certain attachment to this friendly-looking car that clearly echoes the small 500e scaled up. The risk would have been falling into the grotesque or caricature, but the result is ultimately quite distinctive.

Enough chatter; dealerships will do a much better job than we can. What interests us are the technical specifications, which are strictly the same as those of the recent Peugeot 2008 electric with a 54 kWh battery powering a 115 kW (156 horsepower) motor. Strangely, the range is impressively higher, with a promise of 400 km in mixed WLTP cycle, and up to 600 km in city driving thanks to regenerative braking. This seems quite optimistic, so we’ll need to verify.

Belonging to category B, the Fiat 600e will face off against the Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka, or Renault Mégane. Unfortunately, its onboard charger of 11 kW and rapid charging limit of 100 kW do not set it apart from the competition. The performance is similar, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration taking 9 seconds. La dolce vita means not rushing.

We will appreciate the very zen and stylish interior ambiance, with plenty of light and good connectivity.

The order book will open this Wednesday, July 5, 2023, and first deliveries are expected in September. Finally, a hybrid version, likely more affordable and practical for frequent drivers, will be launched in the first quarter of 2024.
