Where do Estrima and Birò come from?

Similar to its French counterpart Ligier, Estrima first made a name in the manufacture of tractor cabins. This core business was started by the Italian company’s creation in the 1970s, before the third generation of the family business launched the firm into the realm of individual mobility. Initially, they experimented with E-Max electric scooters and Cyclone motorcycles, before developing the Birò project.

What is Estrima Birò? A heavy quadricycle with an electric motor. Relying on the very sturdy tractor cabins, the Birò features a highly rigid tubular chassis, visible from the outside and painted in the vehicle’s color. Not very sleek at first glance, but it compensates in many aspects.

Instead of targeting the general public, although Estrima manages to attract young people and license-free individuals, it mainly targets affluent, forty-something urban clientele, as confided by Côme Drescher, CEO of Birò France. No wonder that Birò stores are found in the heart of capitals such as Rome, Milan, Amsterdam, Tokyo, and Paris!

XXS Dimensions

Estrima loves cities where it can showcase its many qualities. First, it stands out with its tiny dimensions: only 1.74 meters long, allowing it to park perpendicular to a standard space without overhanging! The Citroën Ami or the Aixam e-City can’t do that. A champion of superlatives, Birò is the smallest car on the market, and the narrowest: barely 1.03 meters wide.

This size is advantageous for maneuvering, but interior space is limited. For at least two slim people, it might be too tight, so ideal for short trips. Its impressive height of 1.56 meters is also a plus, as headroom is minimal thanks to an elevated seating position above the batteries.

The Birò with or without doors

Despite its XXS size, Estrima offers two storage compartments of 41 liters each: one behind the foldable seats and a trunk accessible via a key, perfect for a bag. Small storage spaces under the hood or behind the steering column also serve as glove compartments.

One downside is that windows do not open, unlike the roof and rear window, and the doors… are removable! Yes, during summer or whenever desired, you can remove the doors in seconds. A true beach vehicle, also available to order without doors in the Summer version.

Birò models for every taste and budget

This level of finish brings the base price down to less than €11,000, while the version with doors typically costs around €13,500. Customers love customization options, including color choices, upholstery options between Italian leather or a beautiful French faux leather, and painted bumpers. Prices can soar to around €20,000 for certain models, or even more for rarer editions.

A limited edition variant by the famous Italian coachbuilder Castagna even features wood inserts and a teak deck, reminiscent of maritime style. Demonstrating that Estrima Birò is chic, it is favored by former clients from Aston Martin or Porsche, yacht owners seeking a matching mini car, and some luxury hotels.
