Poll: Electric cars preferred for daily commutes

Thanks to a significantly lower cost of mileage compared to thermal vehicles, electric cars are favored for frequent trips, especially for dropping children off at school.

A British survey commissioned by Zap-Map showed that electric vehicles are preferred for daily trips. This is the case even for households (about one-third of respondents) that also own a petrol or diesel thermal car. The Zap-Map survey was conducted among 4,300 drivers.

Home-to-work trips are made on electric

Generally, the preferred type of electric trip is a daily local trip to drop off children at school, but also to go grocery shopping or dine out, especially when the home is not located downtown. This type of trip accounts for approximately 85% of respondents. For home-to-work trips where the car is often used due to a lack of public transportation in certain areas, 71% of respondents said they use their electric car, even if the distance exceeds 160 km.

More surprisingly, among the 1,300 drivers owning two cars, one electric and one thermal, a slight majority (55%) still use their electric car for vacations, thanks to a rapidly improving public charging network.

Electric cars are widely adopted

The annual survey conducted by Zap-Map showed that the majority of electric vehicle (EV) drivers own only one car (49% of respondents), far ahead of a very small minority (8%) who own two electric cars, and a negligible number (2%) who also own a hybrid plug-in model in their garage.

In terms of customer satisfaction, owning a car with a charging port generates more interest than petrol or diesel. Only 2% of respondents, according to the survey, wish to go back to a thermal model! The satisfaction rate reaches 89% for cars with a charging port, 83% for plug-in hybrids, and 71% for traditional thermal cars.
