Rivian R2

The Rivian R2 is positioned as the future benchmark in the all-electric SUV segment. And what do you think?

Rivian claims it can rival the reigning Tesla Model Y with its new R2. To do so, it must do better, but above all be different, and the manufacturer seems to have found the right recipe by highlighting a feature of its SUV. While the Model Y is a petite city darling, the R2 is a bad boy. Full of muscle, it’s not afraid to eat some dirt off-road!

In appearance, the Rivian R2 looks very rugged, with angular lines, making it resemble a compact R1S. At a time when automakers struggle to establish a strong brand identity, this design is simple and incredibly effective. The R2 retains the large iconic light bar and the vertical oval-shaped headlights at the front. Essentially indispensable, its bumper incorporates a pair of prominent towing hooks. Under the front hood, it features a generous trunk, or Frunk, like other Rivian models. Retractable door handles, sculpted bodywork, and a flat roof complete the adventurous look. At the rear, there’s a wide light bar, a small R2 badge in the corner, and that’s all.

Everyone Has Their Rivian R2

There will be three different versions in the lineup. A rear-wheel drive with a single motor, and two all-wheel-drive variants with two or three motors (one motor at the front, two at the rear). Two battery sizes will be available, and Rivian claims the largest will have a range of over 480 km and will be equipped with a NACS port. For now, that might be a bit underwhelming to compete with Tesla… For those in a hurry, the tri-motor version will go from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3.0 seconds.
