Corvette: An Electric Coming Out?

The taboo for the American brand with big V8 petrol engines, an electric version is expected to arrive at Corvette in 2025 with a range of sedans and SUVs.

Corvette has always been at the pinnacle of American sports aristocracy. While the Ford Mustang and other Chevrolet Camaro offered an accessible power-to-price ratio, the Corvette has been and remains a technical flagship, still very conservative under the hood with an unbeatable large-displacement V8. Much more technological than its predecessors, the current Corvette Stingray is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine, retaining an AMH with 2 valves per cylinder! This doesn’t stop it from developing 482 hp and reaching 296 km/h!

Yet, it is in terms of mobility that Corvette, owned by General Motors, is about to make a splash. Starting in 2025, the American brand plans to launch a four-door coupe sedan and an SUV, both exclusively electric. And thus to compete with Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model X, but also the Ford Mustang Mach E, as well as German brands, notably Porsche with its Taycan!

Five-star electric for Corvette

Technically, few details have leaked, but these new Corvette models could use the next-generation batteries called Ultium, and also feature cutting-edge 800-volt electrical systems, allowing for charging up to 350 kW.

Among other enhancements mentioned, there would be a two-speed transmission, a patented cooling system, miniaturized components, ultra-efficient inverters, and torque vectoring to better distribute power to all four wheels, thus improving handling precision.

Competitors have every reason to watch out!
