Contrary to appearances, the new MG EHS hybrid is not more expensive!
More modern, larger, and offering greater 100% electric range, the MG EHS takes a step forward. Its prices do too.
Launched three years ago in the European market, the Anglo-Chinese EHS SUV did not manage to captivate the masses, while its electric siblings, the MG4 and MG5, were making headlines. MG did give it a makeover in 2023, but it was too late for it to shine. This new model arrives under much better circumstances, as hybrids are back in vogue!
While the previous generation EHS is still available starting at €32,990, we expected a starting price around €35,000 for the new iteration. It will be a little more, but keep in mind that the manufacturer has been offering a hefty €5,000 discount on the old version for several months! Naturally, when you receive gifts, you tend to forget to say thank you. In the end, the prices are nearly equivalent, and for the same price, you get much more!

The main upgrade is that the plug-in hybrid EHS now receives a large 21.4 kWh battery compared to 16.6 kWh for the previous model, enough to double its all-electric range to 103 km in the WLTP cycle. A sign of the evolution in electrification philosophy, the electric motor is now more powerful than the gasoline engine with 184 hp compared to 142 for the 1.5 Turbo four-cylinder. You counted correctly, that’s a total output of 326 horsepower!
MG prefers to give more
With a much more modern design, this new EHS has gained 45 mm in length and 14 mm in width while being 45 mm lower. At 4,670 mm long and with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm, passengers will be delighted. The lighting signature moves away from the earlier Chinese MGs to align more with what can be seen on its little hybrid sister, the MG3.

The entry-level “Comfort” model is offered at €37,990, with 19-inch diamond alloy wheels, fully LED automatic headlights, rearview camera, 6-speaker audio system, electric driver’s seat, automatic climate control, and of course, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. So yes, it is a bit more expensive than expected, but the model is much better equipped than its predecessor. But as usual with MG, we wonder whether this “high” price for the entry-level model is only to highlight the superior trim! Because for just €2,000 more, you have the “Luxury” trim with electrically folding heated exterior mirrors, 6-way adjustable heated front seats with perforated synthetic leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 360° camera with front and rear parking sensors, an electric tailgate with virtual pedal, and even a wireless charger for smartphones.
