Mercedes-AMG Vision AMG

An initial concept, followed by production cars starting from 2025: Mercedes-AMG’s electric offensive is becoming clearer.

The SLS AMG Electric Drive of 2013 never had a direct successor. However, AMG is not opposed to the electric fairy. Quite the opposite. After working on the EQS and EQE, Mercedes’ performance division has created its own electric concept: the Vision AMG.

This coupe sedan features sleek, flowing lines. The compactness of the electric powertrain allowed for a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs. The low silhouette and elongated rear ensure good aerodynamics, which is obviously important for an electric vehicle.

Hints of Formula 1

Just like Opel did with the 2016 GT concept, Mercedes-AMG gave its side windows the appearance of a body panel. A similar treatment was applied to the rear window, located just above an active spoiler. The diffuser and side skirts are colored with Petronas, the sponsor of Mercedes’ F1 team. The metallic gray, star motifs, and 22-inch wheel designs also evoke the German manufacturer’s single-seaters. At the front, the three-part headlights form a star. The solid grille, very characteristic of AMG in its contours, is crossed by several light strips.

Visually, the Vision AMG draws inspiration from the Mercedes Vision EQXX.

A new electric AMG in 2025

The Vision AMG is built on a platform capable of handling very high charging powers. It also features an axial flux motor developed by YASA. In theory, this technology improves the engine’s efficiency and therefore reduces consumption. Mercedes has not disclosed the power, performance, or battery capacity of the concept, nor its range.

With this concept, Mercedes-AMG aims to give a preview of its future electric models. The first of these will arrive on the market in 2025.
