The Tesla Model Y “Juniper” Performance is the big news at the end of summer 2025. Currently reserved for Europe – while the Chinese have exclusivity on the 6-seater version Model YYY – this configuration has sparked excitement on the Internet. But is it really that incredible?

A copied engine chain?

The design of the Model 3 and Model Y is based on the same modular platform. Thus, regardless of the versions of their respective catalogs, the performance is very close except for trunk capacity and seating height. Tesla tries to differentiate them by style, but well…

Thus, the Model 3 and Model Y Performance offer strictly the same power on both axles, namely 158 kW at the front and 303 kW at the rear, for a peak of 461 kW (626 horsepower). Their sizes differ (+76 mm in length for the electric SUV), but their weights follow the same trend: 182 kg in favor of the Model 3. This is reflected in the acceleration figures (3.1 vs. 3.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h) and in greater aerodynamics (262 km/h vs. 250 km/h top speed).

A battle of ranges!

Nonetheless, the Tesla Model Y Performance pulls off a feat: achieving a lower consumption (16.2 kWh/100 km compared to 16.7 kWh/100 km) than its cousin the Model 3. By what miracle? The solution lies largely in the new battery with unprecedented cells and superior power density. Regeneration is optimized, and range is preserved.

With slightly better capacity, at 84.7 kWh compared to 78.4 kWh, the Model Y Performance offers 580 km of range in the mixed WLTP cycle, compared to 528 km for its little sister the Model 3.

A very different price/performance ratio?

Tesla charges a premium for the newness. Thus, the Model Y Performance is priced in France at €61,990, excluding registration tax. Which varies by region (see our file here). Launched a year ago, the Model 3 Performance is much more affordable: from €54,390 thanks to a €3,100 discount from Tesla France until September 27, 2025. That’s a price difference of €7,600 which weighs heavily on the balance.

For an equal down payment of €7,780, a LOA (lease with option to purchase, 36 months and 30,000 km) for either will greatly impact the amount of the monthly payments: €536 per month for the Model 3 Performance, compared to €813 for the Model Y Performance. That’s a 51.7% difference!

Over the duration of the loan, the Model 3 Performance will cost you €26,540, compared to €36,235 for the Model Y. And if you like the optional Ultra Red color, it will cost you €600 more on the SUV than on the sedan (€2,600 versus €2,000).

Finally, since neither is overflowing with orders, the waiting time for delivery after August 31, 2025, will be less than a month. Royal!
