Citroën ë-C4 X

This new Citroën ë-C4 X model can accommodate traditional combustion engines and especially an electric motor.

Just a few days after Peugeot and its 408, Citroën unveils its high-riding sedan. More than a fully independent model, the C4 X is primarily a derivative of the C4 launched in 2020. It will be available in a 100% electric ë-C4 X version.

The new ë-C4 X extends 24 cm longer than the C4, reaching 4.60 meters in length. The wheelbase remains unchanged at 2.67 meters. From the “normal” C4, the C4 X retains the front end exactly the same. Its silhouette is also identical up to the rear doors.

However, the rear end is entirely different. A small trunk with an integrated spoiler transforms the car into a two-and-a-half volume sedan. The roofline slopes less sharply to balance the silhouette. Arrow-shaped taillights, which extend quite widely over the arches, are also unique to the C4 X.

A familiar dashboard

Inside, the C4 X offers no surprises, as it shares the dashboard design of the C4. However, Citroën has introduced a new infotainment system (the one first seen on the C5 X). Through this system, the vehicle can recognize voice commands preceded by “Hello Citroën.” Climate control, media, and phone functions can be operated via voice commands.

The ë-C4 X features four doors, with a simple trunk rather than a hatch. The new bodywork allows for a more spacious trunk, which now offers 510 liters—a 130-liter increase. This detail is important as Citroën aims to promote this model for taxi services.

A Citroën ë-C4 X electric with 360 km of range

Technically identical to the ë-C4, the ë-C4 X is offered with a 136 hp electric motor. Its 50 kWh battery provides a theoretical WLTP range of 360 km. Rapid charging can boost the power up to 100 kW, allowing 80% of the range to be recovered in 30 minutes. Performance-wise, Citroën states a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 9.5 seconds with Sport mode engaged. The maximum speed is limited to 150 km/h.

Although initially targeted as a conquest model for markets like the Middle East and Africa, the ë-C4 X will also be sold in Europe. Petrol and diesel variants will be available alongside the electric version in certain markets. Launch is scheduled by the end of the year. Production will take place in Spain, at the Valladolid plant.

Prices, which have not yet been announced, are expected to be slightly higher than those of the C4, which start at €35,300.
