Cadillac Challenges the Tesla Model Y

Cadillac adds a smaller and more affordable electric SUV to its lineup. The new OPTIQ EV is expected to sit below the LYRIQ.

The luxury brand of General Motors has confirmed that a fourth electric vehicle will join its lineup. The Cadillac OPTIQ will be positioned in the brand’s pricing grid just below the LYRIQ.

Cadillac stated that “the lively driving dynamics of the OPTIQ are designed to appeal to customers worldwide”. Although no additional details have been provided, the new electric vehicle will have a launch price lower than the LYRIQ.

The Cadillac OPTIQ is expected to go on sale as early as next year, initially in the United States before crossing the Atlantic. It will likely be sold in GM’s main target markets, including North America, Europe, and China. The Cadillac OPTIQ joins the American manufacturer’s electric lineup alongside the LYRIQ, CELESTIQ, and ESCALADE IQ.

This new electric vehicle will be equipped with 143 kW motors at the front and 68 kW at the back. Its batteries will be supplied through a joint venture between CATL and SAIC. With a length of 4.822 meters, a width of 1.912 meters, and a height of 1,643 mm, the Cadillac OPTIQ will directly compete with the reigning Tesla Model Y.

Cadillac has announced its intention to cease selling internal combustion vehicles by 2030. This entry-level electric model will play a key role in the luxury brand’s transition, which aims to compete with leaders like Tesla.

Additional and essential details, such as equipment and pricing, will be announced in early 2024.
