BYD Seagull Dolphin Surf

The small electric city car from BYD is not lacking in arguments, and now, it features a very aggressive entry-level price.

BYD is applying an immediate discount of €1,000 which places its new creation at €18,990. This promotional price, confirmed on the brand’s website, but not yet in the configurator, puts the Dolphin Surf in an ideal position against the Renault 5, Citroën ë-C3, or Fiat Grande Panda.

Derived from the Chinese Seagull, already sold over a million units worldwide, this European version adopts a slightly elongated size (3.99 m), a reinforced structure to meet European safety standards, and a finish better suited to the expectations of the Old Continent.

Based on the e-Platform 3.0, it features the in-house Blade battery installed under the floor and a front motor. Thanks to its 2.50 m wheelbase, the onboard space remains reasonable, with a trunk size varying from 308 to 1,037 liters depending on the configuration.

Three versions, great prices

The range is available in three versions:

  • Active: 88 hp, 30 kWh battery, 220 km WLTP range.
  • Boost (+ €4,000): same motor but with 43.2 kWh battery, 322 km range.
  • Comfort (+ €6,000): 156 hp motor, 43.2 kWh battery, 310 km range.

Fast charging goes up to 65 kW (30 kWh battery) or 85 kW (43.2 kWh battery), with times ranging from 22 to 30 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%.

Despite the logical absence of an ecological bonus, as the Dolphin Surf is imported from China, the equipment remains very complete: 10.1-inch rotating screen, assisted driving, adaptive cruise control, rearview camera, NFC sensor for unlocking… Additionally, there is a single extra charge of €650 for any color other than Lime Green.

The first deliveries are scheduled for this summer with a clear ambition to shake up European electric city cars on their own turf. At this price, the Dolphin Surf has every chance of succeeding.
