Having lost the Eco Bonus in 2024, the Tesla Model 3 is losing some of its appeal to competitors. Here are the 5 best alternatives.

Previously priced at €37,990 after the €5,000 eco bonus, the Tesla Model 3 will still be available in France in 2024. But at a minimum starting price of €42,990. So, what are the best alternatives now that the American car is less attractive? But rest assured: she is not the only one affected by this removal process…

1. Renault Scenic

Its exact price in France is not yet known, but in Belgium and Italy, yes. We know that the new Scenic will start officially just under €40,000 before the bonus. Or approximately €34,990 after applying it. This is a very aggressive price for a vehicle of this size.

At this price, you already get a dynamic family car (170 hp) with reasonable range. The 60 kWh battery at the entry of the lineup will ensure at least 300 real kilometers. With a charging power of 130 kW, long trips won’t be a punishment with a recharge from 10 to 80% taking just a bit longer than the Tesla Model 3. They will simply be more frequent due to slightly higher consumption related to aerodynamics.

If electric wiring worries you, then the 220 hp version with the larger 87 kWh battery (500 km real range), and even better equipped, will cost you around €7,000 more.

2. Hyundai Kona

Hyundai Kona

Produced in the Czech Republic, the Kona electric is the only Hyundai model to retain its eco bonus in 2024. Discounted by €2,670 until December 31, 2023, and very likely still in 2024, the Kona with the large 65.8 kWh battery starts from €41,880. Less the €5,000 bonus, it drops to €36,880, which is €6,110 less than the Tesla Model 3.

Certainly, its power is also lower than the American one, but what’s the point of having 300 horsepower nowadays? The Kona displays the same round power as the Renault Scenic, i.e., 160 kW (217 hp). Sufficient for daily use and to avoid draining the battery prematurely. Officially, it offers 514 km of autonomy, or 400 km real. Comfortable in 98% of scenarios. The only minor drawback is the charging speed limited to 100 kW. This is good for the battery’s lifespan but less so for long-distance travel time, as recharges from 10 to 80% take a bit longer than on the Tesla Model 3. The recharging frequency will just be a little higher due to slightly higher consumption caused by aerodynamics.

The version with the smaller 48 kWh battery starts at €38,150 before bonus, that is €33,150. Almost €10,000 less than the Tesla Model 3. A deal worth seriously considering!

3. Volkswagen ID.3 Pro Performance Life Plus

Not very popular because considered too expensive compared to competitors, the Volkswagen ID.3 “second version” is actually an excellent car. Its distance from the Tesla Model 3 threat makes it more attractive again. Moreover, the German manufacturer is making efforts on price. For months, there has been a ongoing promotion: €3,500 off. Plus the €5,000 bonus, that’s an €8,500 discount in total.

Therefore, the ID.3 Pro Performance Life Plus version with the 58 kWh battery and 204 horsepower is offered at €34,490. Achieving 300 kilometers easily in daily commuting, with charging up to 135 kW. It’s within the segment’s average.

The well-made ID.3 has many qualities. Its price is always open to negotiation with dealers, so don’t be afraid to bargain hard!

4. Citroën ë-C4 “extended range”

Citroen e-C4

It is Made in France and thus charges its production location. But here is a very serious sedan that, despite everything, is not a Tesla Model 3. Let’s be honest. But to initiate your transition to electric with a familiar universe (mainly dealer network), it’s reassuring. The powertrain is also very well known. It equips almost all models of the Stellantis group.

However, there is a subtlety: the ë-C4 offers two battery options: 50 or 54 kWh. Not much difference in this aspect, but the motor isn’t the same. The “extended range” version, €1,000 more expensive, offers nearly 80 km more in range. Not insignificant. The reason lies in a more frugal yet more powerful motor: 156 hp. Appreciable.

Priced at €43,050 before bonus, the Citroën ë-C4 automatically benefits from an initial discount of €1,300 on the Citroën online store. At a dealership, the discount will be even larger, as Stellantis group aims to meet decarbonization targets. So it’s reasonable to expect an final price around €35,000. Worth serious consideration.

5. Tesla Model Y

The big surprise: Tesla Model Y

Why not replace a Tesla with another Tesla? Slightly more expensive by €3,000 than the Model 3, the Model Y remains interesting nonetheless. Especially since Tesla often offers discounts that drop the discounted price below €39,000.

Produced in the German factory in Berlin, the Model Y is currently the only Tesla eligible for the eco bonus. However, we are expecting a deep technical update, similar to what happened with the Model 3 in September 2023. A more contemporary look and updated features.

All signs point to 2024 being a year of strong promotions from Tesla to clear inventory. Stay informed (Mobiwisy is the right place 😉 ).
