BMW subjects future i3 and iX3 to torture tests

BMW offers us an enticing preview of its future electric stars, the i3 and iX3, as their launch approaches rapidly.

These two models, part of the revolutionary BMW Neue Klasse platform, promise to redefine electric mobility with spectacular advances in range, fast charging, and embedded technology.

The iX3, a pioneer of the lineup, will enter production by the end of the year, followed shortly after by the i3 sedan in early 2026. Under their futuristic hood, BMW’s new 800V platform, described as a “quantum leap,” offers 30% faster charging times and up to 30% increased range. These impressive performances are accompanied by lower costs thanks to sixth-generation cylindrical NMC batteries, which are 20% more energy-dense than their prismatic predecessors.

Extreme tests and bold design

In terms of intelligence, the new “Heart of Joy” system combines motorization and driving dynamics in an optimized central unit. Fully designed in-house, this unit incorporates four “super brains” delivering computing power 20 times greater than current models. This paves the way for the i3 and iX3 to reach the peak of efficiency and connectivity.

In South Africa, the iX3 has undergone rigorous desert-condition testing, while the i3 demonstrated agility on icy terrains in Sweden. These tests highlight a redesigned aesthetic, blending sporty elegance with advanced technologies like new ADAS systems integrated into the iconic grille.

With promises of unprecedented electric performance, BMW seems ready to transform the driving experience. For comparison, a 2024 i4 already boasts an EPA range of 485 km and fast charging from 10 to 80% in 31 minutes. Imagine the improved figures of the i3 and iX3… Official unveiling scheduled in a few months. Patience, the revolution is underway.
