BMW takes another step forward in deploying its new generation of electric vehicles.

A few weeks after the introduction of the Neue Klasse, the Bavarian manufacturer announces the launch of the BMW iX3 40. This new engine variant complements the range at the lower end, positioned as a more affordable entry-level version compared to the iX3 50 xDrive, while retaining the major technological advancements of this innovative architecture.

Performance and Efficiency of Gen6

The BMW iX3 40 is based on the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology. Unlike the 50 version equipped with all-wheel drive, the iX3 40 features a single electric synchronous motor located on the rear axle. This unit delivers a power output of 235 kW (320 hp) and a torque of 500 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.

One of the pillars of this “Neue Klasse” is the 800-volt architecture. Thanks to new cylindrical lithium-ion cells that offer a 20% increased energy density, the 82.6 kWh battery provides a maximum range of 635 km (WLTP cycle). In terms of charging, the peak power reaches 300 kW, allowing for a recovery of 300 km of range in just 10 minutes at an ultra-fast charging station.

A Concentration of Software Innovations

Beyond its electric characteristics, the iX3 40 integrates the BMW Heart of Joy system. This supercomputer centralizes the management of the chassis and propulsion with a computation speed twenty times faster than previous models. This software architecture enables the “Soft Stop” function, ensuring ultra-smooth deceleration without any mechanical jolts during the complete stop of the vehicle.

Aesthetically, this 40 version retains the clean visual language of the Neue Klasse, marked by the BMW Panoramic iDrive and an immersive user interface. The standard equipment remains aligned with that of the higher model.
