Toyota bZ4X 2025

Electric SUV until now unpopular due to its divisive style and limited performance, the Toyota bZ4X is getting a facelift.

Toyota announces a significant update to its 100% electric SUV, the bZ4X, marking its first major evolution since its launch in 2022. With technical and aesthetic improvements, this new version promises an even more refined driving experience and an expanded offering for European customers.

Two new battery capacities for more flexibility

Toyota expands the bZ4X lineup by offering now two battery options:

  • 57.7 kWh (gross capacity) dedicated to front-wheel-drive versions
  • 73.1 kWh (gross capacity) available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions

With this flexibility, Toyota allows drivers to choose the configuration that best suits their needs and budget. The maximum range, according to the WLTP cycle, should reach 573 km (preliminary figure awaiting homologation), depending on the motorization and trim.

Enhanced performance thanks to an optimized eAxle

The bZ4X also benefits from an upgraded eAxle system, now incorporating silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors for better energy efficiency and increased power. Three motorization options will be offered:

  • 167 hp (123 kW) with 57.7 kWh battery – front-wheel drive
  • 224 hp (165 kW) with 73.1 kWh battery – front-wheel drive
  • 343 hp (252 kW) with 73.1 kWh battery – all-wheel drive

The all-wheel-drive version also doubles its towing capacity, now reaching 1,500 kg. Another innovation is the addition of a 22 kW onboard AC charger (in high-end trims), while the DC fast charging remains at 150 kW.

A more elegant design and a modernized interior

Toyota has refined the aesthetic of the bZ4X to give it a more streamlined and aerodynamic look. The interior has been completely redesigned with a new central console optimized for digital device use, as well as a redesigned dashboard featuring a standard 14-inch multimedia screen.

Improved comfort also comes from optimized suspension and body structure adjustments, reducing vibrations and noise inside the vehicle.

Software updates and enhanced navigation

The bZ4X now features a pre-conditioning system for the battery, which allows for temperature optimization before charging, improving charging performance especially in cold weather. This feature can be activated manually or automatically when approaching a fast charger station.

An electric vehicle-specific navigation system has also been integrated, automatically selecting routes that include suitable charging stations based on the current charge level and remaining range. This update is already available on current models via over-the-air (OTA) update.

Availability on the European market

Toyota plans to introduce this new version of the bZ4X to the European market after summer 2025. With these updates, the Japanese brand’s fully electric SUV positions itself as a more capable, efficient, and driver-friendly model for zero-emission mobility.

In the meantime, if you’re not particularly interested in this new version, note that the current model, which will still be available at dealerships, will benefit from massive discounts. Toyota is already offering discounts of up to 5,000 euros. Finally, be aware that the Toyota bZ4X is not eligible for the eco-bonus due to its production in Japan.
