Audi bets on an electric platform developed with Porsche

The shared PPE for Audi and Porsche makes optimal use of the advantages of a fully electric drivetrain architecture.

The Premium Electric Platform (PPE), developed jointly with Porsche, is a key element for expanding Audi’s global portfolio of fully electric models. The brand has redesigned the electric motors, power electronics, transmission, as well as the high-voltage battery and all associated components, and tailored them precisely to the requirements of battery electric vehicles.

All components of the powertrain for the PPE are designed to be even more compact than the drive systems developed and installed previously, and they stand out for increased efficiency. Overall, efficiency measures around the new electric motors for the PPE allow for an additional range of 40 kilometers compared to the first-generation Audi e-tron. In terms of production, automation levels and vertical integration have significantly increased. The new electric motors for the PPE require approximately 30% less installation space than those of previous electric models. Their weight has been reduced by about 20%.

Charge Optimization

With a state of charge of around 10%, Audi Q6 e-tron vehicles only need about ten minutes at a fast charger with a maximum charging power of 270 kW in DC to generate a range of up to 255 kilometers under ideal conditions. It takes 21 minutes to charge the high-voltage battery from 10% to 80%.

The flexible and scalable electronic architecture allows Audi to offer different vehicle models and derivatives based on a standardized electronic platform. This approach reduces development and production complexity and creates additional economies of scale. Moreover, the new electronic architecture forms the foundation for future innovations. Security by design and update capabilities are embedded in the architecture from the start.

The PPE makes optimal use of the advantages of a fully electric drivetrain architecture to improve interior space, efficiency, and performance.
