Audi announces a strange entry-level Q4

Audi expands its Q4 e-tron lineup by introducing a new entry-level variant, the Q4 40 e-tron.

The Audi Q4 remains a best-seller in the company’s electric range. Knowing that accessibility to this technology remains a top priority, the arrival of an affordable version can only be good news! Equipped with a 63 kWh battery, the Audi Q4 40 e-tron claims a very respectable range of 412 km for the standard version and 423 km for the Sportback line. Its motor develops 204 hp, allowing it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds. It is thus positioned below the current Q4 45, which has 285 hp and a range of 518 km on the WLTP cycle. Add to that the 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, and you have almost a world between the two versions.

Audi emphasizes the very rich equipment of this “small” 40 version. Manual preconditioning of the battery facilitates fast charging, while predictive maintenance alerts, accessible via the myAudi app, simplify vehicle monitoring. Connectivity is also enhanced with an integrated app store and an optimized voice control system powered by ChatGPT, providing a more intuitive user experience. Regarding charging, a power of 165 kW allows going from 10 to 80% in 24 minutes, with up to 150 km recovered in 10 minutes. These capabilities, although practical, are similar to those of the Q4 45, making the distinction between the two models less obvious.

Either this version targets an audience seeking access to the Premium universe at a slightly lower price, which would be surprising, or Audi has yet to adjust its pricing to the specifics of the French market. It is also possible that this 40 version will never be offered in France. We will know more in a few days, but given Audi’s seriousness, we prefer to expect a pleasant surprise.
