Alpine: What are the 5 upcoming electric cars?

During the presentation of Renault Group’s future, the Alpine brand confirmed five new 100% electric models by 2028.

Rumors for months, Renault Group’s reorganization was made official on November 8, 2022. During the press conference, CEO Luca de Meo confirmed that Alpine will be one of the five subsidiaries of the manufacturer, with some surprises.

The list of upcoming Alpine electric cars

In 2021, during the first presentation of the “Renaulution,” the CEO already announced a 100% electric future. He confirmed that three models would form the range between 2024 and 2026.

Good news, they will indeed be there as planned, but with an addition of two new electric models. Thus, Alpine is preparing a lineup of five models between 2024 and 2028, with a launch each year:

2024: R5-type city car Alpine
2025: Compact crossover
2026: Successor to the Alpine A110
2027: Family crossover segment D (around 4.70 m long)
2028: Large crossover about 5 meters in length

City car R5, crossover, and new A110 to start

The first Alpine electric car is a “hatchback,” or a city car in good French. It will be the sporty version of the new Renault R5 electric, but wait until 2024 for its first units. If the R5 will have a 100 kW motor, we can expect more power (200 kW equivalent to 272 hp?) for the R5 Alpine.

In 2025, it will be the turn of a compact crossover, segment C. Already confirmed early in the year under the code name Alpine X-over GT, it will be the sporty model of the future Renault electric SUV arriving in 2023. Manufacturing will be in France, at the Dieppe plant (Seine-Maritime).

This same factory is also expected to assemble its iconic sporty coupe. The famous A110, currently with an internal combustion engine, will have an electric successor. This will only appear in 2026, under a still unknown name.

But Alpine will go even further with large electric vehicles, where Renault has previously faced failures. “Historically, we tried to do this during the interwar period with the Reinastella, then more recently with the R25, Safrane, Velsatis, Avantime” confides Luca de Meo, “it never worked because Renault is a popular, inclusive brand, so not extendable. This is where Alpine has an opportunity.”

Thus, Alpine adds two new unprecedented electric crossovers to its schedule, much more upscale and expensive. A family-oriented model – segment D – approximately 4.70 meters long, will arrive in 2027. It should compete with a Porsche Macan Electric or the Tesla Model Y. In 2028, the very large E-category electric SUV, likely around 5 meters long, will conclude the Alpine lineup. It would compete with the Audi Q8 e-tron, Mercedes EQE SUV, or BMW iX5.

The CEO of Renault Group does not specify which platforms will underpin these vehicles but hints at the possibility of relying on those existing within the Alliance with Nissan and Mitsubishi.
