To celebrate the 30th anniversary of its Mega brand, Aixam has created the astonishing e-Scouty. This small fully electric car was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, which opened its doors on October 17. Like the Citroën AMI, it is limited to 45 km/h and can therefore be driven without a license from age 14.
15-inch star-shaped wheels, rough fender flares as wings, large yellow shock absorbers, two-tone bodywork: the e-Scouty aims to refresh the image of license-free cars. With this model’s small buggy look, Mega is clearly targeting a young audience, which is currently heavily shifting towards the AMI.
Up to 75 km of range for the Mega electric
The e-Scouty is powered by a 6 kW (8 hp) electric motor. According to Aixam, this unit guarantees good acceleration and a pleasant driving experience. The range peaks at 75 km under favorable conditions. Recharging can be done on a household outlet, or at a charging station via the optional adapter. It takes about 3 hours and 40 minutes to fully restore the battery.
With a starting price of €15,899, the e-Scouty is much more expensive than the AMI, but it is also generally much less basic. Furthermore, the Aixam-Mega is built in France, whereas its rival is assembled in Morocco.
The e-Scouty features real electrically operated sliding windows, as well as a comprehensive instrument panel with a 3.5-inch TFT screen between the two meters. Standard equipment also includes a 6.2-inch central touchscreen. Paying a little extra, customers can opt for a larger screen compatible with Apple CarPlay / Android Auto. A rear-view camera is also available as an option.
