The Aion Hyper GT is the most aerodynamic car in the world

GAC knows how to stand out. At the Guangzhou Auto Show 2022, the manufacturer unveiled the all-new Aion Hyper GT. This four-door family car is built on a new architecture and presents a distinctive style. According to GAC, it is “the production car with the lowest wind resistance in the world.” It is also the second production model in the “Hyper” range after the supercar Aion Hyper SSR.

The Aion Hyper GT is more aerodynamic than the Mercedes EQS

The designers from GAC’s R&D center claim to have been inspired by a droplet shaped by the wind. Regarding the exterior, they say it resembles “liquid metal.” The team utilized results from the TIME and ENO.146 concepts, which allowed them to achieve an impressive drag coefficient of 0.19 cd on the Aion Hyper GT. This enables GAC to boast that its electric vehicle is the most aerodynamic production car in the world. The Aion Hyper GT has less drag than the Mercedes-Benz EQS (0,20 cd), the Tesla Model S (0.208 cd), and the Lucid Air (0.21 cd). However, it trails behind the upcoming Lightyear 0 (0.175 cd).

In terms of style, the Aion Hyper GT features a low-slung silhouette. It has short overhangs and 19-inch wheels. The model’s dimensions are unknown. It appears that the Aion Hyper GT is closer in size to the Tesla Model 3. At the front, it adopts an grille-less, fully closed look. The lower bumper intake opens at certain speeds to reduce drag. Aerodynamics are also accounted for in the rear, where a Porsche Panamera-style rear spoiler deploys automatically at speeds over 80 km/h.

The vehicle’s interior remains secret

The Aion Hyper GT is equipped with numerous sensors, including cameras, radars, LiDARs, and infrared technologies. The hardware is mounted on the front bumper, roof, mirrors, and wings, suggesting a sophisticated ADAS suite. No interior photos have been released by the brand to date. However, from the glass roof running the length of the car, we can see a five-seat configuration. The dashboard would be a digital display with a screen at its center.

The model is based on the new dedicated AEP3.0 architecture and should be available with one or two electric motors. GAC stated that the single rear-mounted motor produces 335 hp (250 kW) and 434 Nm of torque. This would enable a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 4 seconds. The battery is compatible with charging rates up to 480 kW and battery swapping technology. However, its capacity remains unknown. No price has been disclosed so far.
