Renault has commissioned English artist Dan Rawlings to create a fabulously sculpted 100% electric Renault 5 E-Tech.
On May 21, the Douai Manufacture, Ampère ElectriCity, hosted a very special guest, a legendary car reimagined by the diamond-shaped brand: the Renault 5 E-Tech electric. But this car is the result of an unusual collaboration with Dan Rawlings, the famous British artist known for his delicate metallic lace cutouts inspired by nature.
For several weeks, the artist worked in residence in Douai to create two unique poetic works based on the Renault 5 E-Tech electric and a historic Renault 5. The preparatory sketches, the hand-made plasma cutouts, the painting, and the reassembly of the vehicle’s elements are all meticulous steps where emotion can emerge.
All of Dan Rawlings’ works have one thing in common: nature. Drawing inspiration from the vegetation around the Douai industrial site, the artist crafted the metallic cutout structure of “his” Renault 5 E-Tech electric in the form of intertwined brambles.
