600 km of range for the new Tesla Model Y GA All-Wheel Drive?

Although the new Tesla Model Y isn’t necessarily the most anticipated for its range, it would make a strong selling point.

A Tesla Model Y or Model 3 is chosen based on two main criteria: the transmission architecture and the battery. Then, one can add personalized autonomous driving modes, a body or interior color, and a tow hitch ball. That’s it… that’s all! Of course, there are small Easter Eggs for Boost or range improvements to unlock via the Tesla app for cash, but these do not fundamentally change the character of the car.

Two versions of the Tesla Model Y “Juniper” are immediately offered from the global launch, with the classic Propulsion and the Long Range All-Wheel Drive. No major surprises; it follows the same pattern as the launch of the second-generation Tesla Model 3. The Long Range Propulsion and Performance versions will follow, possibly even the Plaid. We will skip the detailed analysis of the technical sheet for the new model regarding dimensions, as it is only a facelift of the existing model. We note a slight increase of 10 kg due to improved soundproofing. Nothing that would significantly impact the range figures.

In France, for now, we must settle for the “Launch Series,” which is a slightly enhanced Long Range All-Wheel Drive priced at around 60,000 euros. We’ve already discussed the price; no need to revisit that, but this model is only available with very attractive 20-inch wheels, and we know that this larger size has a real impact on consumption! It claims a range of 568 km in WLTP cycle compared to 533 km for the previous model with wheels of the same size. In 19 inches, it was 565 km. A quick rule of three estimates the range at approximately 602 km for the new Long Range All-Wheel Drive with 19-inch wheels. One more reason to avoid this “Launch Series,” which offers little interest and no significant resale value potential.
