5-Star Crash Test Rating for the Small BYD Dolphin

The little BYD Dolphin scores 5 stars in the NCAP Crash Test. A real achievement for a vehicle in this segment.

The BYD Dolphin has all the characteristics that have allowed the Renault Clio or the Peugeot 208 to become best-sellers. Compact dimensions mainly, with 4,150 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and a height of 1,570 mm. A sign of agility, the wheels are set at the four corners with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. An electric go-kart with 4 real seats and a 320-liter trunk.

But to succeed, a car must have style, equipment, and an attractive price. It must also, of course, provide the guarantee of taking care of its occupants in the event of an accident.

A clean sweep, so to speak, on this last point for the little Dolphin which scores the maximum rating of 5 stars in the formidable and feared Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) evaluation. After a series of tests including, besides the crash-test, braking tests, visibility, and passive safety, the small vehicle in the C segment ranks as the top student in its class.

Just judge its report card: 88% for adult protection, 87% for child protection, 85% for vulnerable road user protection, including pedestrians, and 79% in the “Safety Assist” category, which evaluates the vehicle based on a range of collision avoidance technologies.

By way of comparison, its Dacia rival, the Spring, only earns a disappointing star.
