The Tesla Cybertruck Has Four Deadly Weapons!

The Tesla Cybertruck is known for its rugged appearance, but the giant also knows how to perform ballet thanks to a technology.

With its 5,660 mm length, the Cybertruck might seem difficult to maneuver. Yet, thanks to its four-wheel steering, it can be surprisingly agile. At low speeds, the front and rear wheels turn in opposite directions. This mechanism, called counter-steering, significantly reduces the turning radius. Despite its imposing dimensions, the Cybertruck then behaves like a much more compact vehicle, making maneuvers such as turning around or parking easier and more efficient. For a vehicle nearly 6 meters long, this is a real advantage, especially in urban environments.

And since a short video is worth a thousand words, Tesla has just posted a short demonstration of the massive vehicle’s capabilities on all social media platforms.

However, this video does not show another aspect of the four-wheel steering technology. At high speeds, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels. This mode, called phase steering, enhances directional stability during quick lane changes or high-speed turns. By distributing lateral forces across all four wheels, this system provides greater stability and ensures a precise trajectory, especially during long, sustained curves.

These two opposing functions are made possible by the electric power steering that equips the large stainless steel pickup, operating both the front and rear wheels. This system uses electric motors to precisely control the steering angles, replacing traditional mechanical systems such as the rack-and-pinion.
