Electric vehicles surge in the automotive market
After several months of stagnation around 12%, the electric vehicle sector is gaining momentum. With 12,326 units, it surpasses the market and raises its share to 13.5%, as in March. But it is still behind the December 2021 record (14.65%).
Renault Mégane E-Tech seems to be leading with 3,458 units (more than one in four electric sales), compared to 1,649 for Dacia Spring and 1,391 Renault ZOE. We are awaiting figures from other brands, especially for the Peugeot e-208 and Fiat 500e. As for the Tesla Model Y (777 units), it will wait until September, at the end of the quarter as usual, to perform.
In the first eight months of the year, electric cars account for 12.2% of registrations. They total 118,482 vehicles overall.
Decline in plug-in hybrids, diesel receding further
This increase in electric vehicles is therefore affecting other powertrain types. Which ones? First, diesel decreases again, accounting for only 15.5% of the market in August 2022. Last year, it was 18.2%. Gasoline remains resilient at 38.5%, up from 37.8% in August 2021.
Between internal combustion engines and electric vehicles, hybrids still hold a significant share of the auto market. However, their share has decreased to 29% of registrations, with 21.5% being simple hybrids. This is a decline compared to previous months, but the volume has increased compared to 2021 (+8%). Among them, plug-in hybrids are in trouble. Their volume decreased by 7% with 6,900 units, representing only 7.5% of the share.
