Electric Car for 100€/month: program activated before the end of the year

The government is still working on this new social leasing formula, which aims to help modest households switch to electric.

An electric car for only €100 a month: this promise was made by Emmanuel Macron during the presidential campaign. The project is still ongoing, but the government still needs to work out a few details. In an interview on France Info, Christophe Béchu, the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, promised that the scheme would be launched in 2023. The first reservations could be made by the end of the year.

The €100-a-month car will initially target modest households and should be available based on income conditions. According to information from BFM TV, scrapping an eligible car for the conversion bonus could also be part of the requirements set by the state. The executive also wishes for the measure to benefit the European automotive industry first. It is possible that cars produced in China will be excluded from the scheme. If this is confirmed, the Dacia Spring would not be eligible. The group’s electric city car is assembled in China. However, there would be no issue for the Peugeot e-208, which shares the electric market leadership with the Spring.

Electric Vehicle Infrastructure: France Advances

During the same interview, Christophe Béchu stated that the goal of 100,000 charging points across the country would be reached “within a few days”. Initially, France aimed to reach this threshold by the end of 2021. The minister acknowledged that the densification of the charging network must now continue to enable widespread adoption of electric cars someday.
