Dacia’s Magic Recipe for Cheaper Cars

With one million vehicles sold, Dacia proves that its bi-fuel petrol and LPG engine is a winning choice.

The figures provided by Dacia are stubborn and persistent. The manufacturer is the leader in Europe in LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) with over 67% market share as of the end of July 2024, and this engine type currently appeals to nearly 40% of the brand’s customers. With an entry-level offering that is exclusively bi-fuel, this is ultimately quite logical.

Dacia’s ECO-G100 engine not only impacts the wallet, as it improves performance over the petrol version by 10 horsepower and 10 Nm of torque. This is all while reducing CO2 emissions by about 10% compared to an equivalent petrol engine. The carbon footprint is thus lower, and fine particulate emissions are reduced by 90%.

It’s all profit

From its design, the engine is made to run on LPG, and the integration of the modules is done directly by Dacia at the factory. The LPG tank takes the place of the spare wheel without affecting the petrol tank or the trunk volume. Vehicles running on LPG are, like all other vehicles in the range, guaranteed for 3 years or 100,000 km.

With a cost 40% lower than unleaded 95 for equivalent energy available, this fuel represents an alternative that allows savings of up to €40 per full tank, according to the manufacturer. This engine type also grants access to tax benefits such as reduced environmental penalties, eligibility for conversion bonuses, or total or partial exemption from the registration fee depending on the departments. The negative publicity surrounding this technology and the risks of tank explosions have certainly hampered its spread in France. All the better for Dacia, which thus finds itself a solid leader in the market, and for its customers who benefit from a wide refueling infrastructure at stations.
