Geely Galaxy

Geely’s empire will expand once again. This time, the Chinese manufacturer is not acquiring a brand but creating a new internal label, which will be called Geely Galaxy. The division will specialize in the production of premium cars with plug-in hybrid or electric powertrains.

Already owner of Volvo, Lotus, and LEVC (the company that manufactures London taxis), Geely also has its own brand, Geely Auto. For its new entity, Geely Galaxy, the Chinese group already has a roadmap: it plans to launch 4 plug-in hybrids and 3 electric vehicles within the next two years. The first new model will arrive on the roads by the second quarter of 2023. It will be the Galaxy L7 SUV, powered by a plug-in hybrid engine. A month later, the L6, a similarly hybrid plug-in sedan, will also enter the market. The first electric vehicle, named E8, is expected in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Currently, Geely provides few technical details about its new models. The only information disclosed concerns the Galaxy L7. The hybrid SUV can reach a top speed of 200 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. Its average fuel consumption will be precisely 5.23 liters under real-world conditions, according to the manufacturer.

A new Geely brand reserved for the domestic market?

Regarding this new vehicle lineup, emphasis will be placed on embedded technologies and human-machine interface. The concept of a sedan with opposing doors hints at the choices made for the interior. Not surprisingly, Geely Galaxy will feature multiple screens and significantly reduce the number of physical buttons.

Geely Galaxy models are sold in China, where interested customers can already place a deposit for the L7. The question of a possible arrival in Europe remains open. Geely has not provided any information on this matter.
