Chinese “Smart” Cars Banned in the United States!

The United States has decided to ban the import of AI-powered cars containing Chinese technologies.

On Tuesday, the United States adopted a rule prohibiting Chinese technologies in vehicles sold within their territory, citing national security risks. This measure targets software and hardware from China, the world’s second-largest economy, as well as those from Russia.

This decision comes as outgoing President Joe Biden intensifies restrictions against China. “Today’s cars are not just steel-wheeled vehicles, but computers on wheels,” said Gina Raimondo, Secretary of Commerce, to Reuters. She warned about connected equipment such as cameras, microphones, and GPS that could expose sensitive data.

The new rule applies to passenger vehicles under 4.5 tons equipped with smart technologies, essentially covering all Chinese-made vehicles except for a few small quadricycles! Additional restrictions for heavy trucks and buses are planned soon. This ban will take effect in 2027, giving Donald Trump some time to negotiate… But no one is fooled, and the main goal is to immediately prohibit the importation of hardware or software related to China or Russia. This measure is part of a broader Washington strategy to reduce China’s access to advanced technologies, notably chips used in AI and military systems. Joe Biden has urged his successor, Donald Trump, to continue these efforts to maintain American technological superiority.

Furthermore, this announcement comes amid heightened trade tensions between the two powers. China has recently launched investigations into American companies operating on its territory, particularly in the tech and finance sectors. Meanwhile, Washington continues to strengthen its alliances with countries like Japan and the European Union to diversify supply chains and counter Beijing’s influence.

China has already responded, calling these restrictions a “flagrant violation” of international trade rules and promising to take measures to protect its interests. Meanwhile, the United States is accelerating investments in AI-related infrastructure to maintain leadership in this strategic field.
